What is a U cell?

It is the layout of machines and workstations located in order of processing, usually in a "U" shape, to carry out different operations and thus allow a continuous flow. Cell operators are multi-skilled and in turn handle multiple processes. The number of operators may vary when the customer demand ratio changes.

This system allows the application of different distributions of work elements among the operators, in addition to the initial and final operations being executed by the same operator.
